UNEARTHED, aboriginal art: Online

The Spaceless Gallery is excited to partner with Gundooee, an Australian gallery specialising in Aboriginal Art. Honoured to host an impressive collection of paintings on canvas by the renown Kathleen and Gloria Petyarre, Abie Mpetyane Loyand Nyurapayia Nampitjinpa aka Mrs Bennett among others to develop a show that has crossed both time and space.

Unearthed is a group show that was conceptualised from the desire to shine a light on the important works of Aboriginal artists and bring them into a context that has not been conceived before. Conveyed through their paintings, the stories and dreams of the indigenous desert people are part of a complex belief system that has been passed down from generations, forming a vital part of their heritage and existence. Accumulated and inherited knowledge about nature, water, food and their direct environment have continued to be painstakingly expressed through their art through every line, stroke, form and colour.

Our aim for this project was to create a show that combined a multi-disciplinary aptitude from all angles that not only juxtaposes the traditional and the digital, but also reflects how it can easily complement. As we learnt more about these beautiful and emotional Aboriginal artworks together with the stories and role they play for the first nations people, we envisioned their homes and the space that inspired them to create such provoking visual messages. We are thus delighted to be able to work hand-in-hand with Singaporean architect & builder of worlds, Marianne Ching Su Ying to conceptualise from ground up, a virtual desert space just for this exhibition.
