In 2021, Quentin Derouet developed a new series of paintings made with walnut stain and charcoal pigment in tempera, all sourced from his own forest garden. Drawing as much from Minimalist and Romantic painting as from American abstraction and Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro, this series explores light and time. These luminous openings, these fragments of moon against a black background, project the viewer into a vast whole, the cosmos.
