Maria Economides
Maria Economides studied business administration with the intention of joining her family’s timber trade, though arts and crafts were always an integral part of her life. In 2010, she moved with her family to Shanghai, where she lived for eight years, traveling extensively throughout Asia and engaging with a wide range of cultures.
After relocating to Athens in 2018, she began studying ceramics, which quickly became central to her practice. Drawn to the material’s resistance to immediacy, she values clay for the time, patience, and focus it demands. All of her works are handcrafted using simple tools.
In recent years, Economides has been involved in a number of international projects, including ongoing presentations at the Van Gogh Foundation shop in Arles (2023), the Musée des Arts Décoratifs shop in Paris for the Elsa Schiaparelli exhibition (2022), and the Museum of Ancient Technology in Athens (2021). She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, most recently in London with Rossogranada and The Invisible Collection for Resilient Clay, part of the official programme of London Craft Week (2023), as well as at Art Athina (2022).
She first entered the international ceramics scene at Milan Design Week (2021) and held her first solo exhibition in Paris in 2023 at La Boulangerie!.
