Rowan Rosie

Biography

Rowan Rosie was born in Glasgow, Scotland and currently lives and works in London. She works with oil & acrylic paint to create vibrant abstract paintings with a unique use of colour and material. Her work depicts issues such as the natural world, travel and human, emotional experiences.

While predominantly abstract in style, her paintings are interjected with gestural brushstrokes and forms that suggest more tangible elements from the physical world around us. Layers of paint and colour fields create a strong sense of depth and light energy from within the painting. Her intuitive approach to painting creates a sense of freedom and possibility that is intrinsic to her artwork and the themes explored within. Her work demands us to question how we typically experience the world and opens our imagination to expand the realms of what we believe is possible beyond physical realities and how we show up in ourselves and collectively.

Rosie studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee (2012-2016) where she received a BA in Fine Art and was awarded a number of prizes for her final Degree Show exhibition. Included was a solo show at the Wall Projects II, Scotland (2017), the John Guthrie Prize for Painting and the acquisition of her work into the Art in Healthcare collection. Upon graduating she spent the following years traveling and living abroad, an experience that left great influence upon her work and artistic outlook. Since returning to Glasgow in 2019, she has shown regularly at galleries including The Lemond Gallery and The Royal Scottish Academy and has worked with institutions such as the National Galleries of Scotland to help deliver outreach programmes. She is passionate about engaging the wider community through art to make positive connections and learnings.
