Biography

Zoe Imber is a French artist and designer based in Normandy. After studying applied arts in Strasbourg, Imber moved to London, UK, where she co-founded a multidisciplinary design studio. Since 2021, she has been developing a distinctive practice, creating intricate compositions reminiscent of the art of tapestry or plumasserie.

Her body of work, Inventory, is composed of pieces made from hand-picked botanical materials – petals, leaves, pods – which she dries, presses, bleaches and gold-gilds.

The project unfolds in two interconnected series: The ‘Living Inventories’ are created from untreated, pressed petals that retain their organic nature and continue to slowly evolve over time. Influenced by light, humidity, and temperature, they develop unique chromatic variations, textures, marks or transparencies, becoming living pieces in constant transformation. In contrast, the ‘Inventories’ feature bleached or gilded plant elements, suspended in a slowed-down temporality. Through this, Imber captures the illusion of permanence, preserving the fleeting in a state of stillness.

At once vibrant and tinged with melancholy, both series explore the beauty of impermanence through a poetic dialogue between nature and time.
