Dr George Tjapaltjarri

Dr George was born in the Gibson Desert, to the southwest of Jupiter Well; he came out of the desert with his family in 1964.
He is a traditional healer and painter, associated with the Kintore and Tjukula medical clinics. Dr George is widowed and has a son Tjungurrayi and a daughter Nungurrayi.
He paints Tingari Cycle and Snake Dreaming. His traditional country includes Kaniwarra, west of Kintore, and Kilingya to the west of Jupiter Well. Dr George passed away at Docker River 2017.
About the painting - Snake Dreaming
This painting depicts the journey of the mythological Snake as it travels through the NT to Naami. The Snake Dreaming is a very important story because in its travels over vast stretches of country, performing rituals and creating and shaping particular sites. The Snake eventually ends up going underground in a mountain in Dr George’s country.
