François Bauer is a visual ceramist born in 1986 and currently based in Strasbourg. Francois Bauer studied graphic design in Chaumont, then went to HEAR, where he deepened his curriculum in object design. He then studied at the European Institute of Ceramic Arts in Guebwiller, which he graduated from in 2017. His ceramics are like a change of scale from his drawing. He then redraws on the object to make it reappear, as if to highlight the form.

His creation process begins with drawing, and from the paper are forms constructed into space. He describes his pieces as “drawn objects”; they are more like drawings or paintings than sculptures. Francois Bauer seeks to deepen the link between drawing and design, between image and object. Another more recent part of his work deals with more abstract sculptures. And coming from the world of design, the question of use has always seemed important to him.
