Located in the heart of Paris, the Palais Garnier stands as a grand emblem of architectural splendor. Claire Adelfang's project seeks to illuminate the sophisticated machinery and structural elements that underpin the building’s elaborate functionality.
Starting in 2015, Claire embarked on a photographic exploration of the Palais Garnier. She was granted authorized access to areas of the opera house typically hidden from the public eye. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between the building's outward magnificence and its concealed, operational aspects. By delving into these lesser-seen spaces, Claire aims to highlight the technical sophistication that supports the grandeur of the opera house.
She creates a dialogue between the visible grandeur and its underground, hidden dimension. Through her photographs and videos, Claire endeavors to unveil these submerged layers, uncovering the unseen dimensions that contribute to the overall splendor of this iconic structure.
